Oof, I've been sick this weekend so I haven't been able to do as much as I wanted to, but I'm really wanting to be more active on my website and make it feel like a home page, haha. And I feel like part of making something feel more homey is putting your personality in it, so I want to blog a lot more!
I was planning to blog about Suburbia because I've made a lot of progress in conceptualization, but I'm feeling like I want to hold onto the plot ideas. For now I'll just say, keep the number 12 in mind. I'll probably share some creature designs soon, but I'm going to slow down a little on working on this game. I'm realizing what I want for it is getting kind of complicated and I feel like I won't be able to do it justice if it's my first game. Which is where this boi comes in.
Over the weekend, I played some Pokemon White and Pokemon Ranger because I want a new Pokemon game Right! Now! and I don't remember these games at all, so they're basically new. But I'm really liking the ideas surrounding the Pokemon liberation concept brought up in White/Black and want to explore that more. I also like the Pokemon Ranger concept of just befriending Pokemon and having them temporarily help you. And, on a similar idea of like fighting monster ethics, there's Undertale, of course. So these are the main inspirations I'm working with lol.
I'm not sure exactly where the plot is gonna go, and how much it'll relate to those inspirations at all, but so far I want you to play as a little kid who lives on a farm (I've been playing Stardew too lately) with your gay moms (<3) and you go exploring with your monster best friend in the neighboring forest a lot (I need a new Hilda season ASAP). And then you either go to school or get recruited by an adventuring guild because not many people own monsters yet (IDK lol but I'm thinking about when I was around middle school age, and it was still a new thing for kids to have phones). But either way, you have an opportunity to go on an Pokemon-like adventure, you just gotta. Prepare first. But then something happens and your monster gets taken from you by baddies (still dunno who they might be yet), but you alone, as a lil kid, can't go take them back, so you have to ask for help (because now that I'm 20, when I see these 10-year-old protagonists single-handedly challenge gang bosses I'm like :0 be careful!!!). The idea behind the title is that helping someone you care about is a minor inconvenience, but it doesn't feel entirely there yet. Plus it sounds a lot like A Simple Favor. I dunno. It just feels better than calling it "My Monster and Me" at the moment. And it shortens to AMI, which is cute.
Anyway this idea is very much a FETUS right now. I'm already trying to work with Unity for it, but I literally haven't touched it before, so I'm still learning how to like. Allow the player to move a sprite. And use colliders. Lol.
I might not have much to show for this for a little while, but I'm SO excited for this and at least wanted to share my ideas so far! Thanks for reading :) Hope you're doing well.
